Instructions for creating a beauty blog in 2021

But I know that when you first try to set up your beauty blog, it can be difficult to figure out everything you need to do.

To make it easier for you to create a beauty blog, I have created this detailed guide that clearly focuses on how to start a beauty blog. I will cover all the most important topics like:

  • Which platform should you choose for your beauty blog?
  • Find web hosting and domain names to power your blog
  • Give your blog new style and functionality with themes and plugins
  • Write your first blog post
  • Drive traffic and attention to your new beauty blog

Ready to get started?

Here’s how to start a beauty blog:

These are the steps that you will follow to launch your beauty or makeup blog:

  • Choose the right blogging platform
  • Choose a domain name
  • Choose a web host to install WordPress
  • Install WordPress theme for beauty blog
  • Complete WordPress Setup
  • Set up WordPress plugins to add more features
  • Start writing and drive traffic
  • Start monetizing your blog for passive income

Step 1: Choose a platform – I recommend WordPress.org

There are many different platforms that you can use to start a beauty blog. But based on my experience, I only recommend one platform for those who are serious about starting a blog:

Self-hosted WordPress (also known as WordPress.org).

This platform is not the same as WordPress.com. Both are different things, which can be confusing since both are named WordPress.

The reasons I recommend using wordpress.org  instead of wordpress.com  are:

  • It gives you more control over your website. You can install “themes” and “plugins” to add new styles and functionality to your blog without any technical knowledge.
  • You own 100% of your website. When you use wordpress.org, you’ll actually host the software on your own server, which means you’re always in control of your website.
  • Monetizing your website is easier because you have full control. If you use another platform, they may have rules about how you can make money.

Also, self-hosted WordPress is simply popular. It powers over 32%  of all the sites on the Internet, and it’s also what most of your favorite beauty bloggers probably use (  also what we use here at ShoutMeLoud  ).

To use self-hosted WordPress, you will need your own “web hosting”. I know that sounds scary and expensive – but it really isn’t. It will only cost you a few dollars per month and is very easy to use – even if you have no technical knowledge (  I’ll show you how  ).

Step 2: Choose a domain name

Your domain name is the permanent address of your website on the Internet. For example, the domain name for this website is “sawmeloud.com”.

Every website needs a domain name. And because your domain name is such an important part of your beauty blog brand, you should take some time to choose a great domain name.

With beauty bloggers, you will find a lot of people using their own names for their domains. It’s good now!

But you can also get more creative if you want – and the domain name suggestion tool can help you come up with some unique ideas.

While there aren’t any specific rules that make up a good domain name, you should follow some basic rules to avoid choosing a bad domain name   . Remarkable:

  • Do not use numbers or hyphens in your domain name because it makes it difficult for people to remember your domain name (e.g. is it “4” or “for”?)
  • If so, try using .com. Again, this is easier for everyone to remember. But this is not an absolute rule.

So once you choose a domain name – how do you actually buy it and connect it to your website?

Good news – you don’t have to,   as I’m about to show you how to get a configured domain name for free.

Step 3: Register Hosting and get a free domain name

Once you’ve decided on a domain name for your beauty blog, you’re ready to sign up for web hosting.

Hosting is essentially the “tool” that powers your beauty blog. It’s what “serves” your website to visitors from all over the world. You may not see it – but every website on the Internet is powered by some kind of web hosting.

Don’t worry, though – setting it up is simple – you don’t need any technical knowledge.

In this section, you’ll perform three important steps in just a few minutes:

  • Register for hosting
  • Claim your free domain name
  • Install WordPress software so you can start blogging

Propose:

Install WordPress software

When you complete your registration, Hosting will give you the option to automatically install WordPress right away –  so you really don’t need to do anything to install WordPress.

After installing WordPress, you officially have a working blog. Congratulations! You can log in to your blog by going to:

yourdomain.com/wp-login.php

You will need to use the WordPress login you obtained during the installation process to log in. And when you are logged in.

Step 4: Choose a fashion blog theme for your website

Your blog “theme” determines how it looks – it’s like the outfit on your blog. You can find both free and premium WordPress themes – so you can pick something that fits your budget.

To find the full range of beauty blog topics, you can Google something like “best beauty blog topics”. But to save you some time, I’ve collected some of my favorite free and premium beauty blog themes below:

  • Clementine – $ 49
  • Ashe  – Free
  • Fashion Guide – 59$

Of course, you can also find dozens of free WordPress themes online. But if you really want to create a professional and long-lasting blog, then I recommend you to use a paid theme because it is safe and beautiful.

Step 5: Useful WordPress plugins to add functionality to your beauty blog

Your blog theme is mainly focused on looks, but plugins help you to add new functionalities.

For example, if you want to display your Instagram photo feed, a plugin can help you do that with no technical setup required.

Finding a plugin is not difficult at all because WordPress is already so popular.

The exact plugins you need depend on the functionality you want, so we can’t give you a specific list. But here are some suggestions for plugins to get you started.

All bloggers should consider these best WordPress plugins. And because beauty blogs are so image- and social-focused, you might want an image gallery plugin or a social media plugin.

Step 6: Share your first blog post

Now that you’re all set up, you’re ready to share your first blog post – here’s an idea of what to write.

WordPress makes it easy to create a blog post. After you log in to your WordPress dashboard, go to  Posts → Add New  :

You can use a text editor to write and format your posts – it’s a lot like Word in that you can use the toolbar to add formatting, insert links, and do other tasks. You can also click the Add Media button to upload and insert images.

When you’re done with your blog post, all you need to do is hit  Publish  to  publish  it:

How to make your beauty blog a success

Congratulations! You’re officially a beauty blogger, which means we’ve reached the end of this guide.

Before I get started, though, I’d like to share some resources to help you grow and eventually monetize your beauty blog.

To get traffic to your website from Google, you should learn about keywords and SEO. And there are plenty of other ways to get traffic as well, such as a clever Pinterest strategy. Then, once you get some traffic, you can look into how to monetize your beauty blog.

Good luck with your new beauty blog!
